I admit I'm Quirky

So, before I start a fun post, I just wanted to update you on the condition of my future brother-in-law.  First post here.  He has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, an extremely rare paralytic syndrome.  It is one of those crazy side-effects of the flu..which he had like 3 weeks ago.  He is off the ventilator and breathing strong (Praise God), but he is still losing feeling throughout his body.  He is so weak, it is hard for him to lift the fork to his mouth, and his tongue is becoming numb so that makes talking hard.

I asked my boss to look the syndrome up with his doctor software (he's a scientist).  He found that the symptoms get proggesively worse for two weeks, platuea for two weeks, and then get better for 2-4 weeks.  After that, it can take up to a year for a complete recovery.  I'd say he's a bit over halfway of those first two weeks.  But everyone is hopeful and optimistic, so that's really good.

Now...onto the fun!  Top Three Thursday from The (un)Experienced Mom and Confessions of a Working Mom want to know what my top three quirks are...

Only three?  well ok .. but remember you asked!

3.  I am chewing all the time.  I can go through a pack of gum in a day.  Yes, an entire pack.  I think I'm on peice four or five this morning.  And if I don't have any gum, then I chew coffee stirrers.  The coffee is so crappy here, I load it up with cream and sugar, carry the coffee with the stirrer in it back to lab.  Drink the coffee and chew on the stirrer.  I even walk around the medical center chewing on coffee stirrers.  I also chew ice.  And bite my finger nails...but I don't chew them.  Promise!

2.  I don't check my voicemail, and I don't like to answer the phone if I don't know the number.  It drives my husband insane!  One day he borrowed my cell phone and missed a call from someone.  He went to check the message they left, only to discover he had to go through 25 new messages to get to the one he needed.  Yeah, whatever...if I know the person whose call I missed, I just call them back.  Saves time, right?

1.  I act like I'm 2.  When I'm not stressed out, I act like a 2-year old.  I skip up and down the aisle at the grocery store.  I wake my husband up by going into his room and singing "Rise and Shine and Give God the Glory, glory" while bounching on the bed until he wants to punch me.  I make faces in resturants with children at nearby tables.  I make stupid corny jokes and laugh really loud at them...even if I'm the only one laughing.  I poke my husband when he is ignoring me until he pays attention to me.  Hmmm...I'm sure there are others, but this is all I can think of right now, lol.  I love being 2!  Well...at least I make myself (and my daughter) laugh!!!

  1. Your #2 is SO me!! People hate that I do that, but I'm with you-HATE voicemail. Only reason I keep it on my line is because without it the phone would ring forever as the person on the other end waited for VM to pick up.

  3. Stopping by to say hi from SITS! My BF's(in HS) dad had GB. He got it from one of the first flu shots out there. He walked with a cane for a year or so and then ended up not needing it. It's a tough thing! Hang in there!

  6. I guess it's better to chew a pack of gum a day than smoke a pack of cigarettes a day!

I'm so sorry to hear about your future BIL, but at least (1) you know what it is now, and (2) he'll be better, even if not right away. I'll keep him in my prayers!

  8. This is great --- I have that chewing thing with the gum & nails (don't bite them either --- try to quit so many times - it's tough!) :(

VOICEMAIL - UGH - HATE IT --- I work from home and am on email all day long, most times I need an email to get action, so email me. Voice mail is a time waster and most people know to follow up their VM with an email. I like the iphone (although I don't have one) from my husband and you can check vm on your email. But still takes so much time.

Rise and Shine and give god your glory --- LOVE that song.... reminds me of my childhood. Thanks for taking me there. :)

  9. You are not alone with the gum-chewing. My hubby doesn't like gum, but like you, I could chew it all the time!

Sorry it took me so long to stop by.

    Thanks for playing our game!
