Week of Weddings -- Brandi

Hi friends!  I am heading down to the beautiful plains of Auburn Alabama to attend my Sister-in-law's wedding (and celebrate my anniversary).  While I'm gone, I'd like to introduce you to some of my best bloggy friends as they share their stories and tips about weddings!

Today I'm excited to introduce you to Brandi from My Three Bubs (soon to be four!)  I somehow ventured upon her blog through friend connections (you know how that goes), and just HAD to comment because ... well ... she had something shudder University of Alabama eeekk on her blog...albiet it was a super cute dress, but I couldn't let that go unnoticed.  (For y'all who are like 'what is she talking about' U of A is our enemy and it makes more sense if you have ever lived in Alabama, or the south (SEC) for that manner).

She is a great and wonderful friend, and honestly some of my closest relationships have grown out of making fun of opposite schools!  When she hinted about getting married in jeans, I just knew I would bug her to she would love to post here too!

Without further ado I present you with Brandi's wedding story:

I'm joining in Christy's Week of Weddings with my first guest post!  (Eeeek).  While she's off celebrating her 3rd anniversary in Au...  Au...AUBURN (whew, that's hard to say), y'all must be entertained (and hopefully this is at least marginally entertaining).  I have a very different take on the whole wedding thing.  I'm not a wedding hater, but when I chose to get married all the hoopla just wasn't for me.

* * * * * * *

While reading Breaking Dawn, I was in stitches over how Bella felt about having a wedding. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that was written about me. I was so Bella. Maybe I'm not "normal," but I never had fantasies about a perfect wedding, dreamed about my dad walking me down the isle, or had any desire to obsess over finding that perfect dress. Back then, the thought of standing at the altar embarrassed to death and being forced to repeat sappy vows in front of a room full of people made my stomach turn (or maybe I can relate because, not unlike Bella, I was 18 and immature when I got married). It horrified me. No sir, not interested. I would have rather had a root canal with no pain medication or poked one of my eyes out with a sharp object (heck, a dull object for that matter).  I must say, though, if Daddy Bub had been a filthy rich vampire, I certainly would have let him buy me a brand new sports car without a single complaint. Alas, I was stuck with a crappy run-down Ford Escort.
So what do you do when you want to get married, but don't want a "wedding?" Well, I ended up with these:

After all, we did live in Texas. Doesn't everyone in Texas get married in cowboy boots?
Not long ago, Lil' Bub pulled these old things out of my closet and was playing with them. He thought they were the coolest thing ever. I told him be careful with those hun, momma got married in those boots. Bubba gasped and said "you wore boots with your wedding dress??!" and I replied no baby, I wore boots with my jeans.
Yep. Daddy Bub and I got married at the courthouse (and, no, I wasn't a pregnant). It was just us... at the courthouse on our lunch break.  A very old judge married us and concluded the ceremony by advising me to get a BIG cast iron skillet and to whop Daddy Bub upside the head with it anytime he got out of line and we'd make it just fine. I have one, but I've never had to use it (although the thought has crossed my mind more than once). Nearly nineteen years later (yes... I'm old as dirt, don't do the math), the only thing I'd change is that I really, really wish I had a "wedding" picture, even if we weren't dressed for the occasion.
Oh, and our honeymoon?  Moving and driving to Alabama the very next day (Roll Tide <-- let's see if Christy posts that part).  ;)

Look ... I left her icky words in ... do I get bonus points for that?  Thanks Brandi for sharing your story with us ... almost makes me want to read twilight ... almost ...

  1. Oh, how fun! I did want the dress, but I didn't want the rest of it- I wanted to get married on a beach somewhere, very small ceremony. Dh wanted the whole big shebang, so I said FINE, YOU PLAN IT! And he did. I just picked out my dress- he did the rest.

    LOL @ the cast-iron skillet.

  2. Look at you leaving the 'icky words' in. HAHA! You definitely get bonus points for that! The Twilight series was fun to read... it gets a little ridiculous there at the end, but now I can't wait to see if they can do the last movie w/out it being being corny. :P

Hope you're having a great time in that - that PLACE you are visiting! Thanks for letting me guest post. :)

  5. Brandi,

What a neat story. Thanks so much for inviting me to read it. I had no idea...I really like those boots too. Super cute. I wish You had a picture too. Maybe you could renew your vows on your 20 year and dress the same way as you did that day. That would be a very cool picture.

  7. I like your wedding story - even thought I've heard it before, you get more descriptive each time. I don't recall hearing the drugless root canal wishes before!!!! I like your boots too. I wore metallic silver platform shoes with a lavender colored dress. Far from typical!

  9. Nice post! I almost wish i'd gotten married in jeans some days :)

Don't do it Christy! I read them (my MIL suggested it...I made it through the first one, and then had to read the rest because I have completion issues. It was like a train wreck-you know it's terrible, but you can't look away.

  11. I would even recommend eloping. Sometimes the financial side to a wedding is not worth it. Or the months of planning. Or the fact that someone in the family will always get their feelings hurt for whatever reason. I had a wedding but afterwords wished I had eloped! I agree though. A picture is a must!
