No, not physically moving ... already done that once this year and I'm cool with that, lol.

Moving ... as in I'm moving in the internet blog world

It’s like when you have two kids and people jokingly ask; “Which one do you love more?”

Or one of the kids asks … then it’s not quite as jokingly … and you have to answer ‘You of course’ even if it’s not true at that moment.

I have two blogs.

One for writing. One for pictures.

I feel like I have a split personality … so in order to avoid the which do you love most question … and to piece myself back together … I took my favorite parts of both blogs and combined them into one brand new part-of-me blog!

Outside my window... The sun is just now waking up, daring to rise over the tree line and paint the morning sky with an orange glow. Soon, it will stream through our front window, and that's why we put curtains up last week.

I am thinking... of family loving life, and the mess that is left behind, but mainly how it all needs to be cleaned tonight

I am thankful for... hot coffee and wet hair and a moment grabbed to spend some time with you

I'm wearing... jeans and a t-shirt; I often feel a bit frumpy going into work in my jeans and t-shirt, but everything I wear is covered with coal dust when I come home, so I really don't want to stain my nice shirts. There was talk last week of us getting company shirts to wear, and I think that is a wonderful idea!

I am remembering... last night I cooked dinner for us ... so it was a bit burnt, but we all sat down at the table and enjoyed a family dinner. My favorite part was before we could eat Leah chimed in with 'Hands mommy ... we almost forget to pray'.

I am creating... thoughts. I am always creating thoughts and ideas; dreams that I may never be able to complete but still ponder on constantly

I am going... to work. I'm sure all working Mom's know the sad feeling of leaving your sleeping children behind again and again.

I am reading... Deep Down by Karen Harper ... and I have Dragons by Micheal Connely on deck

Song that is playing over and over in my head...Pink Triangle by Weezer ... don't ask me why; it's just super catchy and Weezer was on some talk show last week so Andrew went on a Weezer phase (lol)

I am hoping... for more time spent on here. I feel so distant from y'all, but not really. Over the past few weeks there have been multiple stories to share and vent that I have needed my blog for, but I haven't had the time or access to share them ... so I write the stories in my head. If only I could insert a computer up there too ... lol

Noticing that... I want to decorate, but I'm not sure to decorate for fall or for Halloween, but really I should just unpack first

All by myself, balance the heavy tray to the table with my family and order some chocolate milk; in the cup please, not the carton

Savor hot and tender chicken with crispy fatty skin; my favorite part. Next macaroni and cheese with the thick burnt cheese topping all coming up in one bite. Sip rich and creamy chocolate milk and pop in a fried okra or two.

24 hours to myself

So ... let's say for the sake of Mama Kat's prompt number 5 that God looked down on me and said in a loud booming God voice:

"Christy ... I have pushed pause for everyone but YOU for 24 hours. What are you going to do?"

Well, since I would be automatically be wide awake ... no coffee needed in my 24 hours ...

I would:

1. Unpack these boxes. It's going on 4 weeks people, and I am still tripping over at least 4 boxes every morning. I would unpack boxes, put away clothes and put pictures where Andrew could hang them when he woke up (because I can't do anything in a straight line)

2. Finish the kids baby books. I would glue pictures, fill in facts and have these mementos for my babies.

3. Go outside and walk around; take pictures and enjoy nature.

4. Edit pictures. Maybe I could pirate Photoshop elements for that 24 hours ... it might take me that long to learn how to use it, lol!

5. Take a bubble bath and read my book until my fingers turned pruney.

5. Sit ... watch the shows on my dvr that only I like. Read my Bible and journal on what the verses mean to me. Catch up on blogs and read, pray, love with my online friends.

6. Play with my blog. Create a new background for both of them and include best of pages, contact info and friends' buttons.

7. Crawl into bed. As I turn off the light I imagine God will look down and smile at my refreshed soul and press ...

“Don’t say yes!”

Apparently I said the words out loud as I popped up in the bed, drenched from another nightmare. He slept there soundly; another of my night terrors was not enough to wake him. His snoring rumbled off the walls, and I knew sleep was not a returning option and work was only a few hours away. With a heave of my exhausted body, I swung my heavy feet onto the cold floor and drug myself over to the computer; the best time wasting invention.

My hands clicked the mouse and before my foggy brain could understand, I was on his page again; the website that upset me, even though it shouldn’t. There on the front was the picture of him and her, happily posed in the cheesiest of ways. No originality with those two, no creativity, that’s what I brought to the table in our relationship. Whatever, I would give the world to stand in that cheesy pose and wear his ring on my finger.

This Saturday, the little countdown widget in the corner mocked my pain. The insane thoughts entered my head again; the ones that include being a stripper at his bachelor partyor bumping into him and making him love me again. They could make a movie out of our story; make millions and live in wealth, happiness and love forever.

I could hear him stirring the bedroom, the lump that stole half my bed most nights, but at least he came in handy in the dark after a night of drinks. I had to keep him around though, continue to sweetheart him till Saturday. He was my ticket into the wedding; the start of my movie and probably the end of my life.

The days passed and the countdown widget subtracted numbers by the second. Crazy thoughts came and passed; crazier thoughts stayed around and played in my subconscious. The hours were closer now, and I stood preciously putting makeup on not for my date, but rather for the groom. He escorted me in the front door, and I ditched him; an excuse about the bathroom or an old friend or don’t wait for me or just get a good seat … I’ll find you. Whatever the excuse, he was gone now.

I came in the door and asked to be seated on her side, that way he could see me when I stood up and appreciate the time I spent looking good for him; and then he would love me again. The escort sat me down in what presumably looked to be a singles aisle as the only other person was a man sitting alone; a handsome man of olive skin and green eyes. The crazy thoughts fought to shove the green eyes out and replace with the sky blue ones that would soon be on the alter; the sky blue eyes that I should be looking into.

The handsome guy approached with a friendly 'Hi' and smiled at me; such a smile, looks to be from a magazine. My heart raced as I extended a clammy hand for him to shake. I didn’t need this perfect smile and trim body to distract me; I must focus on my plan, my grand plan, and the start of my movie perfect life.

Thankfully the music started and talking ceased. The procession of the older family started and my heart raced to the point of passing out, and then he appeared. He seemed to materialize out of a cloud sent from heaven. He was a knight, a prince charming, an angel sent to make my life better and erase the pain of the past few years. He stood tall and strong and his crystal blue eyes seemed to look into my soul. And then, his head turned. His eyes moved away from me and my heart cried out in pain. My eyes followed his and there she was.

She walked down the aisle. She took my spot next to him. My heart speed as the time neared. The pastor spoke, but not the words I needed to hear. A parent spoke, a mother cried, but nothing mattered until ‘if anyone knows of a reason these two’.

My legs went weak as I found my feet to rise up with. Time became stuck in honey as my body lifted off the seat. My eyes closed as my mouth opened and the words I had practiced for days danced towards my tongue.

Then I felt my butt fall back on the carpeted pew. I felt my feet come off the floor and my mouth snap shut. I felt his hand on my arm, pulling me down and his lips near my ear as he spoke in an almost inaudible whisper.

“Don’t say yes.”

At that moment, I knew the crazy had left my body. I would always love that groom, but not in the way he needed. I looked into the green eyes next to me and saw comfort not judgment, acceptance not horror and an understanding that would take me years to extract from him.

The tears welled at the corner of my eyes threatening to explode at any second. I let my body sink into this stranger next to me, and I felt a feeling I had not experienced for years. A peace that caused me to cry, a peace that caused me to understand, a peace that caused me to move on with my life.

Fiction Writing

Hey guys ... so you may remember Self Reflections Tuesday, and how it kinda just stopped ...

I'm sorry about that. With the moving and the new work blocking blogger and all the craziness of the last three weeks ... I just kinda let it slide. and for some reason, I just felt like it wasn't working.

But ... I wanna try a new idea ... since I'm like crazy like that or something.

Recently I have really enjoyed dabbling in fictional writing ... just short stories, just fun stuff to increase my creativity and improve my writing skills. Also it's easier for me to write a fictional story at work rather than a blog post ... I just write these better in Blogger for some reason ... I'm more the 'real' me or something like that, lol!

So ... I'd like to start a fictional writing weekly linkup ... what do y'all think about that? I need suggestions ...

If I post the link-up on Tuesday would you rather get the theme that day and have a week to link up, or would you like to get the theme on say Sunday and have your post ready to go?

This is not something for published writers, and you don't even have to think it's good ... I just want an excuse to write fiction and I'd love to have my friends play along with me too!!!!!

Roaches and 6am do not mix

I hate bugs ... I hate cockroaches a bit more.

and apparently the further south you go the more cockroaches you get ... at least that's another reason Andrew is trying to persuade me to move up North.

This morning when I go to the bathroom to shower, I am greeted by a roach lying on its back in the bathtub. My foggy morning brain sees the presumably dead roach and devises a brilliant plan. I'll just turn the water on; he will slide down the drain, and I can take my shower without even having to go near him.

Well, I should have hit him with a shoe first because apparently ... he was just sleeping. The water hit this bug; he flipped and flopped and turned himself over and started crawling out of the tub. I made a bee line back to the bed.

I sat on the bed ... at 6am ... next to my sleeping bug-killing husband, and considered just skipping the shower this morning. Although I am still new, and I don't want them thinking I don't shower, and I really needed a shower ... I came up with a new plan.

I was going to kill the roach.

**important background information** I scream when I am startled ... can't help it; it's just a reaction with me

So I slowly open the bathroom door; my husbands shoe cocked and ready to be thrown at the roach. A quick search of the floor reveals that he is not down there. I move the shower curtain; ready for him to jump out when I look up. There he is perched on the shower curtain rod, probably contemplating how he is going to jump on my head.

What do you do to a roach thats above your head balancing on a thin rod? Well, you throw the super heavy shoe at it of course. He went flying somewhere, and I screamed and ran back to my bed.

I woke Andrew up with my scream.

"What's wrong!"

"There's a roach in the bathroom! I tried to kill it with the shoe, but I failed and he ran at me"

"Oh. You screamed like there was a man eating spider attacking your face."

So, I sat on the bed and waited for my bug-killing husband to go kill the roach. He asked me where it was; I don't know ... running out of there was more important.

I heard the toilet flush ... him pee ... and the flush again.

"Did you kill it?"

"Yes."

"But you didn't use a shoe. Did you find it?"

"yes and I flushed it"

He crawled back in bed, pulled the covers up, and I turned around to see him smiling as he was going back to sleep.

"You're smiling! Did you not find the roach and then just flush the toilet to make me think you killed the roach?"

"No, I killed the bug. I'm smiling because you are crazy."

Well ... 6 am and roaches apparently make me go a bit crazy ...

Coppers

The part of Birmingham and the part of Nashville we live in are very similar.

In Nashville, we lived in Antioch. In Birmingham, we live in Roebuck.

Both cities have a reputation for not being the safest places in certain parts of the towns. Where we live/lived just happens to be on the places that people think of as not being the best in the world.

Both towns make people look at you a little bit cock-eyed when you tell them where you live.

Both towns make you want to explain to other people; 'it's ok ... I live in the nicer part of town! Honestly!"

Both towns have 24/7 cop patrol

....wait...

In Antioch, we would always see cops driving around and patrolling the area. I could not make the 1 mile drive to the Kroger without seeing a cop driving on the road. And then when I got to the Kroger, there was another cop standing watch at the front doors. There was even a cop that hung out at the Sonic from nightfall till when they closed. It's amazing how safe you feel when there's a cop on every corner.

In Roebuck ... well, Andrew is the only one who has ventured out in this area after dark. He called me and told me that I am not allowed to leave after dark. (Thank goodness Trussville is just an interstate exit away) The only cop he has seen was in plain clothes and an undercover car.

But I have seen cops ... in the 8 days that I have driven to and from work, at least 4 of those days there was a cop patrolling speeders. And they are not just sitting there and having people slow down ... no these coppers are tricky. More than once they are pulled up flush at the end of a bridge at the end of a curve so they just kinda blend in. Yesterday the dude was lurking in the shadow of an overhang.

Not that I know what goes on internally, and not that I'm trying to make judgments, but it seems to this 'never had a speeding ticket' citizen, that Birmingham Police may have their priorities at tad out of wack. It seems like they are focusing more on speeders ... which is a source of revenue; than making their presence known in the more crime struck areas of town. Maybe I'm completely off base ... but then again maybe I'm not ... maybe they should just run a cop car in front of my house every now and then to make me shut up (lol).

At least Trussville is only 7 interstate miles from here; they have bright lights and a better reputation ...

that would make for a pretty crappy post, but a very true one, lol. Saturday we drove to Nashville and cleaned up the apatment, turned our keys in and drove home in time for the second half of the Auburn game. Sunday I rode with my family to Dothan (~4 hours south) for Aunt Lucinda's funeral. This morning I went to work and had a pretty full day.

i am tired ...

so now as I sit here at 6:30 pm drinking a cup of coffee ... I have words somewhere, but I just can't seem to type them out. Instead, I'll share a few videos that make me smile!

This is a video of us playing around the new house. The hardwood floors have helped Audrey master walking in her little walker. It's too cute!

My Aunt Lucinda

Yesterday another soul entered Heaven.

Great-Aunt Lucinda was always so little. She had a hunch on her back just big enough to shrink her a few inches, and wore her pants pulled up so high I imagined they were touching her bra. I looked forward to visits down to Dothan to see her and Uncle Curtis. Mom always warned us about the messy house, the carpets that were never vacuumed, and well we should just keep our shoes on inside. But I didn’t care. I loved the antique furniture and the ice cream sandwiches kept in the extra freezer in her walkway.

Aunt Lucinda loved to hear me play the piano. She had a piano in her ‘formal sitting room’ that she practically begged me to start playing before I even got in her house. Her piano was always out of tune and some of the keys stuck, but she could not be happier to listen to me play. I loved looking through her music stored in the piano bench. Sheet music from the 1900’s and before; books filled with old hymns; pages yellowed and corners taped; I would spend hours sorting through her sheet music. When she moved to a nursing home, my parents brought me many of those sheets, and one day I hoped to preserve and frame some of them. I think she willed her piano to me … that’s how much it meant to her.

She was an amazing woman all around. She was a basketball player, and a basketball coach in the 50’s for the high school. She would tell stories about practices were they were not allowed to dribble the ball. She loved Auburn football and bleed orange and blue. I’m pretty sure she graduated from Auburn (I’m sure her husband did), and if I had to guess, she was out pushing for women’s rights.

My all time favorite memory of Aunt Lucinda involves the infamous 'bump' downtown Dothan. If you take the street that goes through downtown (give me a break ... I was a kid, not driving yet) there is a part where the street raises and if you go fast enough your car rises off the road and it feels like you are flying. We were driving downtown; my Dad at the wheel, Aunt Lucinda in the passenger seat, and my mom, my sister and me crammed into the backseat. We were approaching this bump in the road, and Dad just was not driving fast enough for Aunt Lucinda. She looked over at him at said "Give in a little gas Charles!" and he did ... and we flew over that bump like no other time and laughed about that day for years.

When her son was around 15, he got Scarlet Fever and became very sick; extremely sick; so sick that the high fever affected his mental capacity. He survived. She gave up everything to be with him. I know she loved him so very much. Glenn is still alive at around 60, and we often figured that was one of the reasons she lived so long. She just wasn’t ready to leave her baby boy yet.

She took my mom and my uncle in after their mom passed away. She was the one that hooked my Mema and my Papa up. Mema was Aunt Lucinda’s hairdresser when Aunt Lucinda decided that her brother needed a new wife, and his kids needed a new mom, and Abby Jane was the perfect woman for it.

In my small stooped Aunt, I always saw power. Her eyes were always bright with life, even after her husband passed away. Her hugs were always the strongest and most powerful hugs. She was so stubborn … drove her car all the way until they took it from her, but she loved strong too.

Even though my babies never had the chance to meet her, I always sent pictures. Mema made sure she knew their names, and told her whose kids they are. I know she was proud, and I know she was proud of me.

Over the years, I have been influenced by my Great Aunt, but I never really realized just how greatly until I began to reflect on my memories of her. You may assume she was my Great Aunt because she was older, but I think she was my Great Aunt because she was Great!

Thank you Aunt Lucinda for loving like you did. Rest in Peace and when we meet again in heaven, I expect a strong tight hug and a big War Eagle!

Where I'm From

I am from Saturday morning soccer games and Sunday morning church, from Umbro shorts and Old Navy skirts.

I am from the white house on the cul-de-sac with the ever-changing flower beds, babbling creek at the bottom of homemade trails, and friendly golden retriever always escaping her pen.

I am from the transplanted willow tree saved from new home construction, the row of crepe-myrtles always blooming down the driveway.

I am from evening dinners around the kitchen table and dessert on the couch.

I am from the determination to meet perfection, where I know I can dream to reach the stars with hard work and elbow grease; and from a faith that reminds my lifestyle is my greatest witness.

From ‘hats on the bed are bad luck’ and ‘bread and butter’ should always be spoken when clasped hands are parted.

I am from Methodist services rich with tradition; hymns sung from the heart. Where family never lacked in pot-lucks and car washes, and a friendly hug and smile was always around the corner.

I'm from the home of Vulcan and the Heart of Dixie, sweet tea and barbeque sandwiches.

From the times my mom and I tried to make the flowers grow in my own special garden to the afternoons spent helping my dad cut trails in the backyard, and the evenings on the deck eating home grilled burgers and swatting at mosquitoes.

I am from photo albums and scrapbook boxes, family traditions that pass through the ages and new ones being formed everyday. I am from my past and loved sparked from the memories of a sight, a smell or a familiar chord.

You're Still Here!

Good Morning Lovelies! You all rock!!!! I haven't updated in like 5 days, and I haven't lost any followers! Thank you all for sticking around ... I hope you will continue to.

The move was ... well honestly it was pretty stressful, but I don't know of any other way to move. But the house ... it makes all the stress worthwhile. It is perfect! I wish I could find my camera cord so I can share it with you. It's in a box ... somewhere.

I discovered a tragedy yesterday at work ... the have Blogger BLOCKED! How can they do this to me! Sigh ... I was ok when I saw facebook was blocked (expected that), but blogger and my fantasy football pages are blocked too! Andrew has no sympathy though, and told me 'welcome to the world of real jobs'; not that Vandy wasn't a real job ... I just had a lot of free time and a lot of time to social network. I think it's really funny that when I tell my IRL friends about my new job they are all like 'oh no, what about your blog?' Don't worry friends, I'll just have to change my schedule a bit so I can blog in the mornings before work!

Well ... off to the coal mines errr i mean lab. Can't wait to tell you more about my job! Here's a sneak peek ... I've already embarrased myself! Yesterday I dropped a pen on the ground and instead of walking over to it to get it, I reached super far forward in my rolling office chair (have you figured out where this is going?) and it slipped out from under me, and down I went! The guys came rushing over to me, but the only thing hurt was my pride. Then I had to wipe to coal off of my pants. Oh the horror, lol!

I am....nervous about moving. No, I'm not nervous about the process of moving, but I am nervous about living in Birmingham. I grew up in Birmingham, and I still see it as the city I grew up in. I see something, and it reminds me of my childhood. I'm nervous that I'm going to have troubles with feeling like I'm still a kid. I'm nervous that I'm going to make new memories in the same city and forget my old memories. I'm nervous that no one is going to understand why I'm nervous about this ...

Honestly, a lot of people did read the post I'm about to put below, but I think it is the best post I have ever written. It explains my past without coming out and saying it, and it also explains what I one day hope to share ... somehow.

No one ever asked me ...

No one ever asked me to start having sex in college before I was married.
     But I did it anyways…

No one ever asked me if it was ok with me to get pregnant out of wedlock. If I was strong enough to handle it. Did I even think this could happen.
     But they did ask me if I was ready to be a Mom. At that time the words stung and shocked me. I didn't want think about it; I didn’t even want to consider it.

No one ever asked me why I started missing classes in college. Why I wore huge bulky sweatshirts in May. Why I missed the weekly Bible studies I had attended for so long. Why I locked myself in my room for hours on end, eating away my emotions.
     But you know what, I didn’t want them too. I didn’t want to face the judgment, the shame I knew was coming. I wouldn’t have to if I hid in the dark.

No one ever asked me if I was scared.
     But I was. So scared I flip-flopped everyday on whether adoption or marriage was the correct answer. So scared I cried myself to sleep at night on my pillow. I would've lied to them anyway.

No one ever asked me if I truly loved Andrew.
     But I hope no one had to. I hope they could see if on my face. I hope they don’t think we only got married because it was forced on us.

No one ever asked me how they were to act around me. How they could accept this mistake from me.
     But I was blown away with the love that flowed my way when I stepped out of the shadows. I am forever grateful to those friends and families.

No one ever asked me if I loved my Leah.
     But I know they could see that in my face, in my eyes, in the way I lived my life.

No one ever asked me what I’m going to do with my story now.
     But I thought about it. I’m going to share it. I’m going to laugh about. I’m going to cry about it. And maybe one day I’ll be able to share it with other young girls. And maybe one day I will affect someone out there.

No one ever asked me if I wanted my life to turn out this way.
     But it doesn’t matter. I love the life I have been given. Sure, it can be complicated. Sure, we have our struggles. None of that matters because it is my life, and I always remember that God never hands you anything you can’t handle.

Back 2 Blogging: 1st post

Seriously though, what would look better in our new home than those beauties?

Day 1 is to post your first blog post. Since I started this blog as a sorta goal for 2010, I started off with a review of 2009 --

2009 In Review

Here's a quick look back on this past year:

-Andrew has been through three jobs this year...stupid economy, but we have been shown the love and kindness through our family, friends and church with how much they step up to help us!

-I turned 24 and Andrew turned 25. Yeah so I lie about my age and tell people I'm 25 too. It sounds better...

-We went to our good friend's Jon and Tif Haye's wedding. So much fun to see college friends and hang out at the beach! Sure I was the preggo dd, but I had fun too (laughing at drunk people)

-Leah turned two and had a great party at the lake!

-I organized the first Budget Bridal Show.

-Audrey Anne was born! What a great little miracle.

And this to a great 2010! Here we come!

I like the list post; maybe I should try to do more of those. My grammar was horrible, but I do like this post. It represents just a little bit of our year in 2009.

Changes are a Comin'

Changes are coming for me and my family! In case you haven't heard, we are moving from Nashville to Birmingham in T-7 days. Yup, that's this Sunday.

I also feel like I need to make some changes here. I'm not exactly sure what, but something needs to improve. That little widget over there says I have 331 followers ... but I don't know all of y'all and I surely don't hear from many in comments.

So, my writing isn't interesting enough to come comment ... I'm not trying to self-deprecate promise; I want to start asking questions at the end of my posts that may encourage people to come share with me. I'm not in the 'favorites ... must comment' list for many people, and that may be because I don't know them well enough.

In real life ... I am shy. I've never had a ton of friends; I'm better at making friends and then sticking to them like glue, but I want to change that. I feel almost anxious to email someone out of the blue. I have made some absolutely wonderful friends by doing that, but I want to be more approachable to more people.

So, I'm going to try to figure out Twitter better, make a Facebook page, and hopefully figure out and start a Blog Frog group.

Most importantly ... I need to wrap my head around what my whole concept for this blog is.

So, there ya go ... changes all around ... the leaves are changing colors, we are changing states, I am starting a new job, and I'm re-vamping my blog.

Would love suggestions!!!!!

Oh, and have I shown you pictures of the house we are renting? too excited!!!

I love purple; it's my favorite color. I had a purple room in high school ... never got old. Since Leah has taken pink, I have dubbed Audrey my 'Purple Princess'

Don't worry ... Leah gets to wear violet too!

Also, I took my time yesterday and walked around Vanderbilt trying to capture some of it before I leave and I happened upon some perfect violet flowers to share today too!

Parking Lot Fair

Last Friday we went to go eat at Cici's ... it's cheap, gets you out of the house, and Leah can eat all the pizza she wants while Andrew and I try to limit the amount we eat. In the parking lot outside the restaurant there was a 'parking lot fair' going on ... 'parking lot fair' is my term for it, but I think it fits!

I thought ... hey we can just go and walk around and that will be fun! We don't have to spend money ... just walk around and have fun. Well, that lasted until Leah saw the 'fishy ride' and just had to ride it. Well, at $2 a ride ... Leah and Daddy talked me into it.

I mean ... come on ... they use a rope as a seat belt and the ride starts off with the carnival man giving it a running start (although he knew I was concerned so Leah's running start wasn't that fast).

and ... she loved it! LOVED IT! and I'm glad I let her go on it! The kids in front were waving their hands, so at one point Leah decided to be daring (that picture is in the collage below).

and then .... Leah cried as we left. I am so ready for the day that we can have fun and not have the fun time ruined by a crying child because she doesn't want to leave... sigh ...

Christy -- So, since there were only 2 people (other than Lisa and I) who responded last week ... I'm going to highlight both, lol. I really enjoyed Kate's last week especially how she detailed the personality traits she has in common with the character on Grey's Anatomy. I loved how Beth focused on stories going on in our minds. It's comforting because now I know I'm not the only one who thinks in that fashion!

Lisa -- My favorite from last week was Christy's. I can totally see how her character is a lot like her. I watched the silly video and was like "yep ... throw an Auburn shirt on that girl and it's Christy"

A Room for Me

It's time for Self Reflections Tuesday! Today's question is -- You have unlimited money, unlimited time, and unlimited space to build your dream house. What is the one room you would put in it just for you?

I have always loved the Victorian style houses with the circle towers on the side. I also got sad every time I didn't get the Victorian Mansion card in The Game of Life.

If I could build any house as my dream house, it would look something like the one below ... except probably not yellow.

and that room at the top ... you know the circle one with cone on the top ... that would be my room! A room all to myself ... that would have this sign on the door:

Under the window there would be a super wide window bench with lots of pillows for reading and looking out the window.

There would be a whole curve with a built in bookshelf that would never be full, so it's always ready for new books to be added to it.

I would have a computer with a very large monitor. That computer would have all the latest photo editing software, and my favorite shots would be hanging on the wall above.

The floor would be dark hardwoods, and the walls would be lavender purple ... because purple is my favorite color. The furniture in the room would be antique with clawed feet and beautiful curves.

There would be a large flat screen t.v. ... for watching dramas without being interrupted with "Mommy, listen to ME!" and also an awesome sound system where I could listen to jazz one minute and rock n' roll the next.

My room would reflect me ... a mixture, sometimes an odd mixture, of feminine soft antique and crazy rock n roll photo editing music. and the best thing ...

When Mommy is in her room, you have to knock to enter, and Mommy reserves the right to pretend that she didn't hear you.

I don't wanna screw this up

A couple of months ago ... well, probably more than a couple ... ummm a while ago, Andrew and I were talking about our relationship when he shared an observation with me. He told me that he's noticed most of our arguments happen when we are moving. The more I thought about it, the more I agreed with him. All the horrible arguments I remember are within a few weeks of moving in or out of somewhere. And we have moved alot ... we moved 3 times before our first anniversary, and once a year since then. I don't know what it is about moving, but it somehow makes me more combative.

Now, we are moving to Birmingham. I couldn't be happier, seriously. It is very bittersweet leaving Nashville, but I'm excited about the opportunities for both of us in Birmingham. But before any of this can start ... we have to move there; we have to pack boxes, and trucks and cars.

Now, I have the knowledge that moving causes strains on our relationship ... and it's like I'm watching a slow motion disaster movie. Moving boxes are entering our house and my 'fight or flight' response has become all fight. Fight is building up into a huge fist wound tighter than a jack stuck in a box ready to punch anyone within ten feet ... and by anyone, I mean Andrew; and by punch I mean act like a b*tch.

yup, something like this...

I want to stop. Last night was bad. I don't know why ... I saw myself doing it, I heard myself losing patience, I felt that fist winding backwards ... so I went to bed. I don't want to fight. I don't want to make my lovely husband upset.

Anyone have any advice? How can I keep my sanity, my relationship, and gain a new house in a new city all at the same time? Is that too much to ask for ...

I did find a rainbow in the carpet last night ... maybe that means something ...

Spinning

This is fiction inspired by Mama Kat's Writers Workshop and a bit of real life.

She stood with her hand easily resting on the railing, watching the boys spin faster than should be allowed on the carousal. Their collective ages totaled more than the retired man peering over his glasses to control the ride, but they giggled and laughed like kids half their age. She smiled and laughed in her easy manner; more with them than at them, and anyone watching could notice the love she felt by looking at her eyes. She belonged to them.

No, they weren't her children or her brothers or her lovers; well mostly. They were her friends, best friends. The place where she felt safe enough to be herself. She enjoyed the easy acceptance and the fun flirting that came along with guy friends. No glances and glares to analyze as evil or benign. No backstabbing to avoid or fall prey to. Just truth and sexy glances; boys who were often blunt, but always honest.

They stumbled off the ride dizzier than after a night of illegal drinking. She fell in step with their movements and instantly at home in the warm familiarity. They laughed as each one tried to compose themselves while each flirting with her in their own fun way. And then, the one with the bright eyes and boyish smile, the one with the wave in his hair, the one that held her heart grabbed her hand.

And the years passed by faster than any dizzying ride on a carousal. Friends grew up and moved away; some becoming nothing more than an internet posting. But the bright eyed boy still held her hand, and claimed it as his own with a ring to match his smile.

Before she could stop the spinning years of life, she was surrounded by a new group; a much shorter group. The love flowed easily, but the acceptance often came guarded with the role of discipline. Still there was truth all around, blunt truth; sometimes delivered through soft stern words and other times through yells that could knock down a straw wall.

Now as she stood one tired hand on the handrail, one on the stroller; she felt the memories of a time seemingly long ago rush back. And she watched the boy with the bright eyes and the small group spin faster than should be allowed on the carousel, their combined ages barely surpassing her own, she sank back into a simpler time of acceptance. No longer was she a mom with dark circles and deep wrinkles, but a girl who could cause a blind man to flirt as he passed her way. Anyone watching saw the love in her eyes. She rested the camera atop the sticky stroller and took a second to pause and realize; she belonged to them.

I had this post that I have been writing in my head for today. I was going to share it today with Shell's Pour Your Heart Out. It was about how I've been feeling a bit down lately ... how I just haven't felt myself ... about how I'm stressed out alot. It was going to tell y'all that I may not be updating here quite as much. About how my updates here may be more fiction writing, and how I'm going to put more of myself into taking pictures ... because devoting myself to a hobby is how I get through depression feeling times.

But then ... I got a call this morning ...

I got the job in Birmingham at the coal lab ...

What? I got it! I got it! We are moving to Birmingham!

what? we're moving?

gotta get to packing ... and taking pictures because today I started the 365 project.

Do you ever see yourself as a character in a television show or a movie? Share what (if anything) you have learned from watching it.

Yes ... I am very quick to relate pretty much anything to my life. I often seek some likeness to my life from the shows I watch when I select the ones to follow more than others.

I did want to do a Gilmore Girls post here, but I think that may be a bit too personal for me to really explain. Plus, I can see a bit of myself in every single character of that show. Don't make fun, you know you liked it!

So, instead I'm going to talk about Scrubs. What an absolutely wonderful show! If you have never seen it, I highly recommended renting any (except for the last two seasons) tonight! What is so wonderful about this show is that it will have you laughing in your seat and then pondering deep life messages within a 20-ish minute time span.

I see myself in Dr. Elliot Reed.

She is kind to all, and always has this drive to impress her parents. She is naive in some parents of her life, and lacking of confidence in others. There is this entire episode where she is freaking out because she has forgotten a simple technique she learned her first day of being a doctor. The longer she shies away from trying; the lower her confidence level becomes. Then, she is inspired by Dr. Micheal J. Fox (as a doctor character who has OCD), and she overcomes her fears and triumphs at what she originally knew she knew all along.

But she didn't get there without freaking out first. and I see myself in that. I may be in the freak out stage a bit longer than 15 minutes, but when I finally overcome it, there is always a confidence boost waiting at the end.

Plus, she's quirky and has a sense of humor that's a little bit 'different' and that is just like me!

Overall, Scrubs is a wonderful show ~~and I hate NBC for what it did to end it~~, and if you have a spare 10 minutes, watch this portion of a show. It's one of my favorites for the life lesson at the end.

Christy: Is it bad to say that my favorite from last weeks was Lisa? Oh well, I'm saying it anyway! I love how she took the idea of seeing into the future and made it into this wonderful opportunity for herself and others.

Lisa: My favorite from last week was Kate. It would be awesome to have the power to heal. <--ok, I totally put those words in Lisa's mouth, (um computer), but all she told me was that her favorite was Kate! Tell me more! (hehe)

So, I have to confess something here ... call it rookie inexperience or over enthusiasm or something like that, but I think these past two weeks topics have probably been a bit hard. I say this because when I think about it I'm like 'man, I would totally skip this week', and if I want to skip my own writing prompt ... well then they just might be a bit too hard. What do you think?

I've Got a Minute

Did you know Monday Minute was passed along to new hosts? Shut up, I'm sure you did. Ummm...I need to start paying attention to stuff and stop worrying about getting this stupid job ... that is job number 2, and yes it has only been a week, and yes I have communicated by email with them twice, and yes they are sending me a benefits package via FedEx today, but I am still worried about not getting it. It's just not real until you have that official offer in your hand ...

Well, since I literally only have a minute until I need to go upstairs and snip tiny parts of tails off of mice ... here's my Monday Minute answers!

Who was your high school Sweet Heart?
Uhhh ... I have dated 4 people in my life ... 2 were in high school, 2 in college ... and 1 is now my husband (duh). The point is, I would consider both those guys my high school sweethearts. They are both sweet and wonderful guys that I'm glad I had the pleasure to date.

What is your favorite vegetable to eat?
Fried Okra ... what? I live in the south :-). Or corn, or green beans, or squash, or pretty much anything that is not green peas

Do you plan on dressing up for Halloween, if yes, what do you have in mind?
I dunno ... I'm definitely dressing up the girls for Halloween, and if we are still in Nashville, raiding my friend Kala's neighborhood ... so we will dress up as two crazy mommies who between us have 2 three year olds, a 9 month old, and 3 month old twins :-).

Are you a reality show junkie? If so, what is your guilty pleasure?

well, not really. I will watch like Teen Mom and stuff if it is on, but I don't live and die by reality shows ... I like fiction t.v. better!

haha, ummm ... probably a car or really the driver in the car ... but I always do it where they can't see it b/c I don't want to be run off the road or something crazy like that

well, she drank the milk from some, ate some others, and then traded the rest for more pot

ummm .. Dora guitar or the acoustic guitar that I want to learn to play

11. What was the last note that you wrote on your hand?
oh, this is going to sound so dorky ... but the last note I wrote on my hand was the catalog number to something that I needed to order, but I couldn't find a sticky so I just wrote it on my hand

Uranus ... because I'm immature and still giggle anytime someone says Uranus

ummm ... this is hard. dude, why did I pick this one? (lol) (well, Lisa came up with this idea...)

If I could have a superpower for only 24 hours ... hmmm ... well, it's had to save the world in 24 hours. I have seriously thought about this all day long ... (that's why I'm writing it at 9:15pm). I'm also trying not to copy any of the other fabulous entries.

So, I asked Andrew ... his first answer ... well, it's a bit ummm guy, his second answer would be the ability to fly. I came back with 'well, wouldn't you want to help people?' He said 'well, yeah, but that's not what I think of when you say superpowers.'

I guess superpowers can be relavant; it's up to us as to what we consider a superpower. Like the Five Iron Frenzy song above ... their 'superpower' is the ability to sing and perform in front of a crowd. To our children, we have the superpower to provide a comfortable and loving life to them. I do believe that we all have our own superpowers ...

but, back to the prompt ...

I would have the talent to move time super fast. I would travel around the world like Santa Claus and surprise people who are deserving. I would be able to speed up the time it takes to develop a treatment for cancer. I would speed applications for families waiting to adopt babies, and for the time the babies have to wait to meet their new family.

and then maybe I would stop time for a bit ... and take a nap ...

and don't ever forget that just because you aren't Wolverine or that super fast guy from Hero's, you are a superhero to someone

Christy from Just Thinkin' and Lisa from The Sarcastic Lab Rat came up with a new idea to help boost brain power and decrease blogger's block. The 'Self Reflection' title comes from the fact that this is a meme to focus on YOU! We all love reading about our kids, our dogs, our cats, our bunnies, our spouses, etc ... but here is a place for you to reflect on YOU and your thoughts. Every week we will all meet together here and expand our brain and our friendships though a writing prompt.

Last Week we were talking about 5 things we like about ourselves --

Lisa: My favorite post was DysFUNctional Mom. I love that she's sassy and looooooooves animals!

Christy: Oh my! It is so hard to pick my favorite; I so enjoyed everyone who linked up! I really loved Beth's especially how she talks about being determined. That is such a great to trait to have, and it's wonderful that she can recognize that about her personality!

We had a birthday party on Saturday. Went well!

We traveled down to Birmingham Saturday night and spent an awesome Sunday here.

and now

I'm about to head out for my interview.

Bits n Pieces

It's FRIDAY!!!!! and I'm getting my fragments on with Mrs. 4444's!

Guess what dummy forgot to wash the conditioner out of her hair this morning? ...uuummm... yeah, me. It's not too bad though; just looks like I put a ton of hairspray on top of my head. What? I got distracted by shaving my legs...

Leah turned 3 yesterday (wow), and we are having her party tomorrow! She is so excited. She keeps asking me about the decorations and the theme and telling me all about her party. We are going back to the same park/lake/picnic area we went to last year, and we are having an Isa's Garden (from Dora) themed party. The kids are going to make flower garden t-shirts with fingerprints! I can't wait!

and I am going to make a promise on here that I truly want to uphold -- with her party I am going to enjoy it and not stress out over every little detail; I am going to let the kids play when they don't want to play my game; I am not going to be the overbearing annoying mommy I hope so

I tried to get my lazy butt hubby to type out this next fragment so he could be a 'guest fragmenter' and tell the story in his own words ... but he's a lazy butt, so I guess you'll just have to live with me telling the story.

The other day, Andrew took Leah with him to get her antibiotics from the store. While they were standing in line, Leah made an amazing discovery ... Daddy's pants have pockets in them! She shoved her hand in Andrew's pocket and proclaimed "It's so big Daddy!"

Andrew told me -- "The one thing you don't want to hear from your 3 year old as she puts her hand in your pocket at the store is 'it's soooo big'". I died laughing, for real!

I don't know if you knew or not, but I'm still waiting to hear back from the job interview in Birmingham. Well, guess what? I got a call this past Monday from another lab in Birmingham, and I have an interview with them this Monday! Yay! I have a good feeling about this one. and I kinda want the first company to call and offer me the job after I take another one so I can say NO and laugh in their face. Might make up a little bit for the torture of waiting the last 4 MONTHS ... and the fact that it has been 3 weeks since my interview with absolutely nothing from them ...

The plant manager explained to him that the radio had been programed to his voice and all he had to do was tell the radio what he wanted to hear. Pretty neat stuff.
He got back into the car and said "Country music", and old Willie started singing. "Rock and Roll", he exclaimed, and immediately Elvis started crooning. "Easy listening", he remarked, and all at once it sounded like he was in an elevator.
He was relaxed, driving up I-59 to Birmingham, and listening to smooth sounds. Then a pickup truck with two good ole boys almost ran him off the road. "Stupid rednecks!" he screamed.

Leah,

Three years ago today you made your entrance into this world. I went into the hospital in pain as a scared mommy-to-be. I left the hospital in pain as a scared mommy. It was the best day of my life.

You have changed my life for the better. Having you with me has made me a better person. Before you came into my life, I was lost. I was a girl floating around looking for my meaning. Now that you are here, I know why I am here and what my meaning is. I am here to be your mom. And I love it. Every single second from the ones when we hug and cuddle and kiss to the ones where I just can't seem to get you to listen to me. I love every second I get to spend with you.

I have watched you grow, learn to crawl, learn to walk, talk, eat big people food, and now I see you playing computer games all by yourself. Your intelligence amazes me as well as how you have taken to music. I look at you now, and I can see your future. It is bright and promising, and I can not wait to see you grow up.

But some days I look at you and want you to stay little forever. I want you to cuddle with me when we watch movies, to bring your blankie and sleep with me on the couch. I want you to jump up when you hear the door and race to greet me with the biggest hug ever.

I closed my eyes and you turned 1 --

The ER

I can only imagine it as she saw it ... white walls with colored tiles thrown in for effect; feet played into the tiles on the floor; the smell of antiseptics and a sight of a hard working member of the custodial crew. She knew she had a boo-boo, and she could point to me where it hurt. It wasn't a huge deal; definitely not life threatening, but it was the weekend and a Sunday at that. The only place open on Sunday is the ER. So off to the ER we went.

I took Leah swimming last Friday night. Andrew was off work, so Leah and I headed to the pool for a little mommy and daughter bonding time. I saw her get bit by a mosquito; on the cheek. I remember thinking ... man that sucks, need to put something on that when we get home.

Saturday morning I woke up before everyone else and headed to church to help with the skills testing for our Upwards football league (you can see my pictures here). Imagine my surprise when I came back home to see Leah with the start of a black eye! She told me she feel off her bed ... well, I later figured it out to be something else.

We all took naps on Saturday, and when she woke up I noticed that the markings around her eye was not the start of a bruised black eye, but rather very swollen and most likely a reaction to the bug bite. I called my pediatrician ... I called my mom ... I called my 2 best friends who are both in medical school .. I called my husband. I tweeted it, I facebooked it, I googled it ... and we let her sleep with the swollen eye which now had a green marker on where the swelling ended.

Sunday morning the swelling had reached up to her eyelid. We felt she had to see a doctor because it was her eye and we didn't want any sort of infection happening up in there. But of course ... it's Sunday.

The Children's ER is friendly. It has a nice waiting room with a huge toy that entertained Leah. And if you go early on a Sunday morning, you are one of two people waiting to be called back.

I asked Leah how she liked the doctor. She told me about the blood pressure cuff that squeezed her leg when the nurse took her blood pressure.

Apparently when the little blood sucker bit Leah's cheek, an opportunistic bacteria squirmed its way in too. That unexpected bacteria caused an immunological response around my little girl's eye. Oh, and I know exactly what happened ... what cells were fighting, how they were doing it, why it was happening (because I work in an immunology lab), but I don't think you came here for a science lesson. They deemed her eye as being ok, and put her on antibiotics to make sure an infection didn't happen.

and now the recovery process happens ... and hopefully no one thinks we beat our child ...

Reflectin' on Me

Today's theme is to post a self-portrait and list 5 things you like about yourself.

This is kinda tough for me. I'm not too big on me ... like to the point where sometimes I have self esteem / self confidence issues. So ... 5 things ... man ... I can't even complain about this topic because I picked it. Durn.

Well ... first I'm going to start with the self-portrait. I could totally cop out here considering that little button ... yeah that is totally a self-portrait already :-). Or I could do something totally awesome and artistic that I think makes me look super cool. But I think I'm going to try this whole being true to myself thing, and I'm going to give you all a real self-portrait. Leah was playing with my camera and took lots of pictures of me ... so here's me --

(in no particular order)

--I like that I walk with my face up. Ok, I know that sounds funny, but let me explain. When I walk around the building at work or anywhere I am always looking up; never down at my feet or staring at the ground, but with my eyes up so I can see other people. I like meeting someone's eye and smiling and hopefully making them smile as well!

--I like that I am not a "typical" girl...not saying that there really is a 'typical' girl, but I'm kinda weird in that way. I love sports! love them! I love to watch them, I love to play them, I love to talk about them, I love to coach/ref them, I love sports! and it's fun because sometimes it surprises people, and that's always fun!

--I like that I am musically talented. I really like being able to read music and play the piano.

--I like that I am compassionate. I want to help everybody, and sometimes that becomes overwhelming or saddening (especially when I'm not in a situation where I can help), but the compassion is always there. I like that I will volunteer for pretty much anything if it is going to help someone in some way.

--I like that I am goofy and can make people laugh. I like to enjoy life with a big smile, and I am not afraid to play with the kids and hoop and holler like a crazy kid!

Friday Hoppin'

I took this picture last night. All three girls were on the floor having a wonderful time. I even let Leah take pictures with my camera. This is what I love so much about being a mom ... loving my girls and having them love me back!

So, I have something fun to pseudo-announce. It's a pseudo announcement because technically I have not had a chance to confirm with Lisa if she likes this idea ...

so ... technically it could change ...

but for now, this is what it is (in my head at least)

We want to start a new weekly writing challenge with prompts, and all the prompts will cause you to reflect upon yourself in some kind of manner; anywhere from serious to not so serious. The link-up will be every Tuesday. Dumb Kids

4.) The craziest reason I ever got in trouble as a child.
Well ... this is more of one of the dumbest reasons I got in trouble as a child. and I even ripped of Mama Kat's way of telling the story ...

side note -- In our backyard we had a little playset thing. My dad built it for us. Think tree house, but instead of being on a tree it was free standing. You had to climb up a ladder to get to the platform and then it had a slide you could go down.

Tuesday Three Smiles

--Football!!!!!
Watching football, talking about football, preparing for games, analyzing games, NFL, college (SEC!), fantasy, preparing my draft order, spending time learning about football with my husband, impressing him or my dad with my knowledge of plays, being able to call a formation by seeing it on the field ... I LOVE it all! Football puts a smile on my face!

oh yeah, and playing flag football in college ... that was super fun! (and I learned a lot of knowledge too)

I love reading, and I especially love reading to Leah (and Audrey if she would sit still). I love reading her new books! Also in middle Tennessee they have a Books from Birth program that sends the girls a new book ever month or so. I love when they come in the mail, and we have new books to read!!!!

You ask Me!

When I started blogging in January I thought I would make everyone die laughing with my hilarious stories, and I would always stay up beat and positive on my blog. See, I've tried online journaling / blogging off and on for oh 6 or 7 years, but I would either stop updating or get so depressed in the posts that I would end up deleting the blog.

But this blog ... well it was going to be different! I was going to be happy all the time and focus on funny things Leah said, and pretty pictures, and happy stories ... and then, the day after I told one of my best friends about my new blog ... he passed away. I still miss him, and I struggle with the grieving process at times, and well ... my happy only blog idea flew out the window.

And I don't think it's a bad thing at all! I have come to accept this blog as a place for all emotions; happy, sad, mad, frustrated, excited, nervous, introspective ...

I have truly meet some wonderful people who have affected my life for the better. I have come to love and accept that my wedding was beautiful in it's own way by writing multiple posts on it for prompts and blog hops. I am reassured that I am not the only young mother in the world, and that other people have frustrations and annoying moments with their kids as well. I have been able to talk about my past and reflect upon my future. I have fallen in love with my husband again and again.

I am so blessed to have discovered and embraced a place where I can be myself, even if I don't always have everyone gripping their sides from the hilarity that I have written.

But now, I want to hear from you! I would love to write a post answering your questions. Big questions, little questions, silly questions, stupid questions, or no questions (you don't have to leave a question to comment) I welcome them all!
